Larry Montana
Larry Montana, that bicultural American, has hardly ridden a horse and for that matter never ridden a bull but loves horses, rodeos and all things western. For him there is never too much of anything cowboy: that sense of lonely space in every Western movie, two stubborn men about to seek the ultimate perfection of a well-aimed bullet, distant blue mountains and a clear bright sky above the dusty dirt. Before the sound of gunshots echo in the empty street it’s too late for a different ending. In the art of Larry Montana there are not words but saddles, chaps, hats, boots and other essential range riding memorabilia, stories to be told about pioneer ranchers, and stories his drawings tell of the men and women who lived the life.
Classically trained at the Royal Academy of Art in London and with a teaching career at universities in the UK, New Zealand and the US, Larry Montana is an intensely figurative artist. He understands art and is informed by its masterpieces. His portfolio of original Western drawings is offered as a limited edition series of archival prints, signed and numbered by the artist. Also available as Giclee prints are some examples from Larry’s inventory of drawings, prints and large format oil paintings.
